SwellWomen is bliss. SwellWomen is love. Above all, SwellWomen is community. Meet Cyndy Henderson, who has been on more SwellWomen retreats than we can count! It is thriving women like Cyndy who make SwellWomen what it is today, and we know she will inspire you as much as she has inspired us.

What inspired you to want to learn how to surf?
I wanted to try things way outside my comfort zone and learn to be love the TRYING something that I might never be “good” at … joy needed to be the payoff … everything doesn’t have to be about ACHIEVING. Athletic achievement is WAY outside my zone.
What’s your favorite surf spot?
I love all of them except Playa Amarillo. Even if you make me pick a favorite it will be a tie: Lahaina Breakwall + Mag Rock
What’s one piece of advice you can offer to a novice surfer?
Laugh and have fun. When you aren’t feeling that way, it’s time to get out of the water and come back again with a different perspective.
What’s your favorite travel and/or retreat memory?
That gorgeous ride I took on the very far should of Playa Colorado, with Lulu running down the beach cheering and taking pics.
What keeps you inspired and gives you bliss?
I misplaced my surfing joy last year – nothing was working right. I had worked so hard to get fitter & lose weight, and WTF it wasn’t working. That inspired me (after I had a little pity party) to just let that go but keep at my training and eating like a grownup. I recently reconnected with just relax surfing, on the Kihei (beginner bunny slope of surfing) & at Lahaina Breakwall. I’m excited to see if I can sustain that feeling on my next Swellwomen Costa Rica April 2019. Those moments of sitting on the board and taking it all in married with long rides are pure bliss for me.
