Who’s Andrea Pertnoy? Well, she’s the Co-Founder of Island Bee based in Palm Beach, FL and a proud mama! Andrea is also a passionate seeker, student, explorer, and guide of all things healthy and vibrant. A seemingly innocent book changed the course of her life over ten years ago, and it has been a gratitude filled journey ever since. She has taught yoga and lived a plant based lifestyle for over a decade and shares her knowledge and love for this conscious way of living through her classes and events at her cafe & juicery Island Bee in Palm Beach FL. But don’t take our word for it — read all about it, straight from Andrea’s lips (and fingertips)!
Q: Andrea, what’s the story behind you and your passion for plant-based wellness? What’s the story behind The Bee?
.
My passion for a plant based lifestyle evolved slow and steady! I was in the dance world for 25 years and spent a lot of time disconnected from myself and the true beauty of my body. I started to adjust my diet for reasons of losing weight and that thankfully evolved when I completed my Yoga certification over 10 years ago. I read Skinny Bitch, which seems a little silly, but this book shifted the course of my life. I became focused on the effect of food not only on my own body but also the effect our choices have on the world at large. I was developing this deeper connection to my emotional and physical body through yoga and then that intensified as I became connected to the welfare of all beings through my lifestyle choices. Being vegan is no longer a weird hippie thing! It is main stream and becoming the focus on so many levels. Health for ourselves, the planet, and future generations.
The Bee was a clear manifestation that I didn’t know i was manifesting!! A long time friend, my business partner, came to me and asked if I would like to start something. He knew I taught yoga and was vegan and into all the earth mama stuff! We came up with a plan and opened our doors a few months later. It is a lifestyle space that not only gives current vegans a place to enjoy top quality food but it is also inviting to the non vegan as well. It is all about community and bringing people together for a cause greater than ourselves.

Q: What keeps you inspired and gives you bliss?
.
I am lucky to be inspired by a lot in life. My family is the driving force behind everything that I do because everything grows from love. I am humbled by nature and definitely feel the responsibility of caring for her as much as I can. I am also inspired by the results that I see and feel when I really live in a way that is best for me. Moving my body, feeding myself clean food, and making time for myself is key. Bliss for me is being in a place of love and integrity. A simple day outside with Oliver & Josh….laughing….watermelon dripping down my sons face…..that’s bliss!!
.
Q: What do you hope to share with your customers and guests?
.

.
Q: Do you have a favorite travel and/or retreat memory? What was it?
.
Travel has so much to do with the relationships that are made along the way. Those are the moments that tend to be the most memorable and can even create life long friendships. A retreat setting amplifies that in so many ways! We are together as a tribe experiencing and supporting each other in this joyful, playful, loving & beautiful place.
